You! Because recently people across the country have been realizing something that us Memphians already knew! We live in the most amazing city in the world, and its finally receiving some well-deserved recognition. Check out a few of the accolades Memphis has received in past week. Graceland was named the Best Iconic American Attraction chosen by readers of USA Today and 10Best. With thousands of people coming each year from all over the world, Elvis' Memphis home is the cornerstone of Memphis tourism. Elvis bought Graceland Mansion for himself, his parents, and his paternal grandmother to live in for $102,500. It was ready for them to move into on May 16th, 1957, but Elvis doesn't spend his first night in Graceland until June 26th, 1957. He lived there on and off until his death on August 16, 1977. Also on the list of Best Iconic American Attractions is The National Civil Right Museum at the Lorraine Motel. Vivid exhibits chronicle the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April of 1968 and the hunt for his killer. The museum also explores the faces and places that defined the American civil rights movement and examine the continuing fight around the world for universal equality. The Grizzlies have grinded their way to the top! They were named by ESPN Magazine the Best Franchise in Sports. For a team that only came to Memphis in 2001, it is a huge honor to be named the best after only 12 years. After making it to the Western Conference Finals last year the expectation and excitement is high for next year. Check out their season promo for the upcoming season! The time to believe is upon us! Join the team to celebrate their win today, September 24, at Southside Park (612 South Parkway East Memphis, TN 38106) from 5-7 p.m. And the cherry on top was the announcement that Memphis's very own Muddy's Bake Shop was named one of the Best Bakeries in America! They opened their doors on February 29th, 2008 and the people of Memphis (me included) have been enjoying delicious baked goods ever since. If you've been there before you already knew this of course, and now you are jonesing for a Prozac cupcake. If you have yet to go there, they are located at 5101 Sanderlin, Memphis, TN 38117. Now that you know where they, are go buy a celebratory cupcake from one of America's Best Bakeries! Alright guys, there you have it. Undeniable proof that our city is the best city. Now go out there and enjoy it!
Hope to see you, Rachel Koch

Backbeat Tours is a small business formed in 2006 by author and historian Bill Patton. Memphis has a compelling local history, and we believe that the best way to show that is through music, story, and fun. Papa Don McMinn ("The Pale Prince of Beale Street"), Eddie Harrison (former Stax musician and performer of the Billboard Top 100 Single "Your Eyes May Shine"), Gary Hardy (former owner and chief engineer at Sun Studio), and Daniel "Memphis" Jones were the original entertainers for Backbeat Tours Memphis. Their combined knowledge of the Memphis music industry from the 1950s to today allowed us to craft truly unique and exceptional tours.
From our original bus, to our brand-spankin' new bus Sweet Caroline, Backbeat has given thousands of tours of Downtown Memphis. We offer five distinct tours that give people a glimpse into the heart and soul of Memphis. As unique and unconventional as Memphis itself, our tours are the only way to truly experience this amazing city. Our dream with the blog is to develop a closer relationship with the Memphis community. We here at Backbeat are crazy about everything Memphis and we hope to share some of our favourite tips, tricks and stories that make Memphis unique. Hope to see and hear from you soon, The Backbeat Family |
